Latte Dock v0.7.79 - a step before the last turn...

Hello everyone Latte Dock v0.7.79  may be the last version before a beta release scheduled for the next month. This is a call for testers and enthusiasts to play with that version and try to find bugs or inconveniences that can be improved. Latte v0.8 is going to be a huge release (scheduled for June 2018) and one of its main goals is to make the user feel with it very natural and comfortable.

Plasma 5.12 with Latte v0.7.79 *

A powerful and intuitive panel/dock manager that provides an elegant Plasma experience

I wouldnt make that call if v0.7.79 was in a state that could create issues in your system or made you feel that many things have to be done before a stable release. That isnt the case, many users use it daily and the most bugs are for minor issues that we are just trying a way to reproduce them in order to fix them. To use it you should build it yourself from https://github.com/psifidotos/Latte-Dock or ask your distro packagers to provide it for you.

So no more talking, what v0.8 brings and why is it so important?

    1. What app is that setting it? In my system there isnt such default.

    2. @Michail I think what Esspy means is that "meta + e" ("super + e") is a very common shortcut for opening the filemanager. (Windows, many linuxes, etc.) So it would be good to not have a default for Latte that would conflict with that shortcut.

    3. I think that such shortcut doesnt exist in Plasma but even if there is a conflict there user can change it from plasma systemsettings... these shortcuts arend hard coded, they can be changed just like all the rest plasma global shortcuts.

  2. I saw that in latest build feature "improve content visibility" has been improved by making panel solid when triggering any action on it, so there is no longer that bad effect of white on white and dark on dark effect when using global menu. Nice!

However, now there is no pure transparency when using global menu even when "improve content visibility" is off. I'd wished that solid effect was tied more to the "improve content visibility" (so the old behavior of having transparent panel when clicking on global menu) but that's only my personal feeling. When it comes to readability, current state seems to be more reasonable so I won't complain... for now ;). The goal is to have stable 0.8 and the "improve content visibility" feature was resolved well so there is no need to dig into it more, at least not now - it works great!

Thanks again for such awesome work! Latte is a powerhouse now. No dock can compare to it by even a bit! :D

    1. I have opened: https://github.com/psifidotos/Latte-Dock/issues/956 I believe you should participate as this is where the design decisions will take place and what is my opinion. Based on the conclusion of that discussion in the future an issue will be either identified as bug or as wontfix because of design decision.

  3. thans a lot.

    > However, now there is no pure transparency when using global menu

I dont think I can understand what you mean. If you disable dynamic background wouldnt you be able to have transparent panel? It might be a good idea to open a new issue at github and explain the use case you are describing with screenshots and commenting...

  4. Hi, I tried the new Latte Dock version and I noticed that the panel background becomes solid if i open a panel element (taskbar, K menu, etc.) ; I tried all the settings related to dynamic background but I was not able to disable this feature ; is there a way to prevent the panel becoming solid when clicking a panel element (like before) ? Thanks.
